A Great Adventure

It has been 3 weeks since we flew home from Ireland.  It is time to wrap this adventure up.  Our experience in Dublin Airport was just like every airport...all about 'hurry up and wait'!  Pearson was a breeze.  Automated customs and getting lucky with our checked luggage meant we were actually standing outside waiting to be picked up 5 minutes before our plane had even been scheduled to land.  Thanks Chris!

After having re-read this blog, a few things jumped out at me. (Other than some lousy spelling and some grammar mistakes.)

History

Ireland's History is fascinating.  We were able to get a feel for a little bit of its' ancient history.  The Battle of the Boyne, New Grange, Dunluce Castle, Rock of Cashel for example. Everywhere we went the potato famine/starvation was also front and centre.   And of course there were our experiences with very recent history in Belfast and Londonderry/Derry with 'The troubles/The Conflict'.  Ireland really has had a turbulent past.

Driving

Of course there was the driving.  Although challenging at times, we believe it is the best way to see and experience Ireland.  The scenery on the west coast (The Wild Atlantic Way) is as good as anywhere we have ever travelled, if not better.  Being able to take the 'less travelled' roads made for some challenges but well worth it.  If there is a downside it would be the driving in and out of cities/towns.  Ireland has an overabundance of round-a-bouts and one way streets topped off with poor signage.  Sue did a remarkable job of navigating!

Accommodation & Pubs

Another fun part of our experience was being able to stay in the 'heart' of every city/town.  It was more expensive but it meant that we were within walking distance of all the pubs and restaurants.  Speaking of Pubs, Ireland is blessed with them.  As a result, we were able to sample a wide range of beers with most of them to our liking...now isn't that a surprise!  With a couple of distillery tours added in, I have come to the conclusion that Irish Whiskey is not half bad after all.

The Emerald Island

As we travelled the parameter of The Republic of Ireland and of Northern Ireland, we were amazed at how green everything is.  I was unaware of how many shades of green there really are.  It is truly beautiful!

We had a really good adventure.  Ireland lived up to everything that we had hoped it would be and then some.  I again will wrap this up by borrowing a phrase from friends.

Life is good!!!
